Description
We love this stuffed wild venison haunch joint. It fits perfectly with our ethos on ‘default’ meat – it’s wild, good for the environment, sustainable and high on nutritional value.
Why is this wild venison so good? For a start it is just that – wild. We source our venison from well-managed estates in Cumbria and Lancashire where animal welfare is of the highest standard. They range free, eating a natural diet that means they are fit and healthy. This open grazing and movement means that the landscape benefits, ecologically and visually. This blog post highlights some of the many of the advantages of eating wild game. We also have an advantage in our modern day world. We no longer have to go completely primal and head out into the woods with a spear in hand. We leave that to our new-age paleo hunters, the gamekeepers, who in turn get our meat delivered directly to the door. It couldn’t be easier.
The natural diet means that we get meat that is high in nutrition and free from any interference from us, so no drugs, hormones or antibiotics, nor GM feed. Wild venison is rich in iron and vitamin B, high in omega 3 and has less omega 6 than grain fed meats. It is a rich, tender meat and makes a great alternative to beef for a roast dinner.
Recipe Recommendations:
Venison is naturally lower in fat, so it’s a good idea to add fat to the roast for cooking – you could try lard or pork fat- and cook it nice and pink to benefit from the succulent flavours. Here are some really tasty ideas on what to do with your wild venison haunch joint to make the most of this delicious wild venison meat.

About Primal Meats
We aim to offer you nutrient dense meat from Farms who rear their animals to very high standards of welfare and manage their land in harmony with nature.
Our meats are perfect for those following diets based on ancestral wisdom as they are as close as possible to meats from the wild.
The beef, lamb, mutton and hogget are 100% grass fed and carry the “Pasture for life” logo, providing reassurance of nutrient quality and traceability amongst a world of misleading “grass fed meat” products. We offer certified organic or free-range chicken and our pork is organic raised (but not certified) and free to roam. Our wild game comes from estates across Scotland, the North of England and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.
