Reared on the hills of West Oxfordshire this Beef Shorthorn slow cooking box contains a variety of joints to deliver maximum nutritional value. The meat is dry aged for 28 days. Delicious! Reared entirely on the farm’s own grass and hay. No concentrates are fed.

Description

This Beef Shorthorn Slow Cooking Box comes from the Briarland Herd a newly established herd of Beef Shorthorn cattle raised on the gently rolling pastures of New House Farm in North Oxfordshire.  The farm has been in the family for over 100 years and 4 generations  Having undergone various transitions through dairy and arable farming, in 2017 the family decided to return the land to pasture to work with nature and raise native breeds of cattle and sheep with minimum inputs.

The Beef Shorthorn breed appealed as a native breed, and also for their reputation as natural foragers, easy calvers, a good temperament and generally being good at looking after themselves.   We also love their varieties of colour: roans, reds, whites and a mix of these.

The Shorthorn dates back to the late 18th Century, originally developed as a dual-purpose breed, but in 1958 the Beef Shorthorn became a separate breed with its’ own section in the herd book.  In the 1960’s and 1970’s its’ popularity declined, but they are now back in vogue and increasingly recognised for the high quality of their meat which is full of flavour, tender with good marbling throughout.

The meat for this cow share is aged for 28 days before being packaged and dispatched to you.

The beef is VACUUM-PACKED, as the air has been removed from the packaging, the meat will stay fresh for up to 10 days in your refrigerator providing it is kept between 0-3 degrees C. The fresh mince needs to be frozen after 5 days from packing as it has been through a machine. All meat intended for freezing should be frozen as soon as possible after purchase. The quality of the meat is the same whether it is cooked from fresh or frozen. Once unfrozen, meat must not be refrozen unless cooked beforehand.
