Stewing Hens from Planton Farm – Delivery Thursday 10th October

Planton Farm is ‘Exploring the art of what’s possible’ when it comes to regeneration, of soil, land and life, which necessarily involves raising their animals, as close to nature as possible. The farm is in transition to organic and awaiting certification, the poultry are all reared to organic standards, being fed an organically certified diet and are purchased from an organic certified hatchery.

The birds, specially selected for their slower – more natural – growth are reared on pasture. Their diet rich is rich in beta-carotene boosting grass & insects, as well as having access to the shade and shelter of pre-woodland successional scrub. Poultry perform beneficial eco-system functions within Planton’s habitat and biodiversity enhancing land stewardship.

Planton Farm has embarked upon the Impeckable Poultry project – working with other farmers and industry players to develop the ‘Ultimate Chicken’ in a regenerative approach to chicken production in the UK.

Box of 4 organic reared stewing hens – approx. weight each bird 1-1.2kg

Description

Planton Farm, nestled in the hills of Shropshire, is the home of visionaries. Clare Hill, Annie Rayner and Ruth Layton have all worked in the agricultural industry trying to change things from the inside. Now they want to blaze a trail, demonstrating what is possible with regenerative agriculture and help other farmers do the same. So Planton is part research farm, part training facility, and home to Clare, her husband Rupert and their two children.

“How do we increase biodiversity? It’s the ultimate aim. How do we create such an abundance of insects in the pastures that the chickens get a large proportion of their protein needs from that wild source? I guess that’s our north star.”

Recipe: Norwegian Chicken Fricassee

About Primal Meats

We aim to offer you nutrient dense meat from Farms who rear their animals to very high standards of welfare and manage their land in harmony with nature.
Our meats are perfect for those following diets based on ancestral wisdom as they are as close as possible to meats from the wild.

The beef, lamb, mutton and hogget are 100% grass fed and carry the “Pasture for life” logo, providing reassurance of nutrient quality and traceability amongst a world of misleading “grass fed meat” products. We offer certified organic or free-range chicken and our pork is free range, pasture reared (not just outdoor bred) and sourced from the highest quality farms we can find. Our wild game comes from estates across Scotland, the North of England and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.
100% grass fed
